Spartans Welcome In Lions For Weekend Matchups
The University of Tampa Spartans basketball programs takes on conference foe Saint Leo University this weekend at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
TAMPA, Fla. - The Univeristy of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will play host to Sunshine State Conference foe Saint Leo University on Saturday, for a weekend hoops doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the Martinez Center.
The women enter the game with a record of 8-8 and 2-4 in the SSC. SLU enters the matchup with a 4-12 mark with a tally of 1-6 in conference play.
Guards Juliana Cavallaro and Elena deAlfredo lead the team in scoring, averaging 13.6 and 12.8 points per game respectively. Leading the charge on the boards for the Spartans is Angela Alvarez with 6.5 and Taylor McVey with 5.5 rebounds per game.
The Spartans lead the all-time series 74-16. Tampa split the two matchups last year, but has won 11 of the past 12 contest as the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The men's team comes into the game with a 4-11 overall record, while looking for its first victory in the SSC. The Lions enter the contest boasting a record of 11-6 and 4-3 in conference matchups.
UT's offense is led by a trio of Spartans averaging double-digit points with freshman phenom Pat Bacon tallying 20.7, Austin Rettig registering 15.7 and Marcel Robinson rounding out the effort with his 10.6 per game average.
Tampa leads the all-time series 57-16, with UT winning the last meeting 65-57 in the 2014-15 season.
