Spartans And Sailfish Set To Clash In The Martinez Canter
The Men Look To Win Their Third Straight Game.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will be back at home as they host the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish Saturday night in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. The women will enter the game 13-10 and sit at 6-6 in the Sunshine State Conference. The men enter the game at 8-14 and 4-8 In the Sunshine State Conference. This will be the second time that the two programs will meet this season.
The women's team will kick off the doubleheader against the Sailfish. PBA enters the contest with a record of 10-12 and are a regional matchup for the Spartans. In their first meeting of the season, PBA defeated UT 65-56. Ellen Nurmi led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points, while Ayanna Holmes fueled the Sailfish offense with 18 points of her own.
Going into Saturday's game, the Spartans are led by Juliana Cavallaro, who's coming off a 19 point performance against Nova Southeastern on Wednesday. On the glass, Tampa is led by a duo of seniors in Taylor McVey and Angela Alvarez, who are averaging 5.3 and 6.2 rebounds per game.
The men will conclude the doubleheader with the Sailfish at 4:00 PM. In their last matchup, The Spartans were defeated by the Sailfish by a score of 78-69. Duke Shelton registered a double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
The last time out, the Spartans defeated Nova Southeastern 86-71 in a big road victory. Pat Bacon and Duke Shelton led the Spartans in scoring with 24 points each. Shelton registered a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with his 24 points.
