Spartans Set to Host Tarzans in Home Opener
The University of Tampa men's basketball team is set to battle Puerto Rico-Mayaguez University
TAMPA, Fla. – Hosting its first home game of the season, the University of Tampa men's basketball team will meet Puerto Rico-Mayaguez University on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.
The Matchup: University of Tampa (0-2) vs. Puerto Rico-Mayaguez University (0-1)
Date/Time: Wednesday, November 16 at 7 p.m.
Location: Bob Martinez Athletics Center | Tampa, Fla.
Last Time Out: UT battled University of Alabama-Huntsville and suffered a tough 91-86 loss. Sophomore Pat Bacon led all Spartans with 18 points and seven rebounds. Junior Grant Bryant was one rebound shy of his first double-double as a Spartan. The Spartans were 30-68 from the field and forced 11 turnovers. The UT bench contributed 37 points to the Chargers 23. Late in the game, the Spartans battled back from a 10 point spread but the Chargers held on to their lead to pull out the win.
About the Spartans: Tampa is led by senior Austin Rettig and reigning SSC Freshman of the Year Bacon. In the last two competitions, UT has gained contributions from its newest Spartans, ECU transfer Bryant and freshmen Mekhi Biffle and Alberto Moreno. Two of the four top scorers of last season, Marcel Robinson and Duke Shelton have also contributed greatly in the last two competitions for the Spartans.
About the Tarzans: Last time out the Tarzans fell to Embry-Riddle 97-76. UPRM shot 47 percent from the field and were 10-18 at the line. Junior Alexis Parrilla was 8-14 from the field, contributed 17 points and one steal. Senior Alexander Curet shot 7-14 from the field and led all Tarzans with 19 points.
Series History: Tampa owns the all-time series over the Tarzans with a 6-0 overall record since 2012.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
