Spartans Set to Host Sailfish
The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will host the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic in a midweek battle.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Wednesday evening starting with the women at 5:30 pm and the men at 7:30 pm.

Last Time Out (Men's): The Spartans took down the Cowboys of Puerto Rico-Bayamon in a close matchup, 81-73. The Spartans and the Cowboys traded baskets in the beginning of the competition. But the Cowboys gained momentum and held the lead over the Spartans for the majority of the first and self halves. It wasn't until there were six and a half minutes left on the clock that the Spartan offense was sparked and Tampa held on to their lead to become victorious. Sophomore Pat Bacon was the leading point scorer, setting a career high with 32 points. He also contributed three rebounds and two steals. Freshman Mekhi Biffle was the second leading point scorer with 16 points, three rebounds, and four blocks. Junior Duke Shelton recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 18 rebounds. As a team, the Spartans shot 48.4 percent from the field and outrebounded the Cowboys, 41-24.
Last Time Out (Women's): The Spartans defeated the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International 80-45. Tampa and TAMIU traded baskets for a few points but a three pointer from junior Morgan Lumb jumpstarted the Spartans offense. The Spartans headed into the second quarter leading 17-7 and never looked back. The Spartans led the entire game and solidified their win leading by a 35 point advantage. Junior Karma Jeremie led all Spartans with 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Jenny Horvatinovic, Teresa Kucera, and Elena deAlfredo all contributed 13 points. A total of five Spartans scored in double figures and as a team, the Spartans shot 52.5 percent from the field.
About the Spartans (Men's): UT is led offensively by junior Shelton, tallying 14 points per game. He is closey followed by sophomore Bacon and senior Austin Rettig with 13.7 and 11.4, respectively. Shelton sits in second place in the SSC for rebounds with 11.6 per game and in second place for blocked shots with 1.6 per game. As a team, the Spartans are second in conference for defensive rebounds with 28.3 per game and first in conference for blocked shots averaging 3.86 per game.
About the Spartans (Women's): The Spartans are led offensively by senior deAlfredo who is third in the SSC for points per game with 14.2. She is followed by junior Faith Sanders and Jeremie with 12.3 and 12.2, respectively. As a team, the Spartans are averaging 67 points per game and have a 48.4 field goal percentage.
About the Sailfish (Men's): De'Ondre Jackson and Bakari Warthen lead the Sailfish offensively averaging 19.5 and 14.8 points per game, respectively. As a team, PBA is shooting 46.6 percent from the field and collecting 40.2 rebounds per game.The Sailfish are averaging 12.7 steals per game and 4.5 blocks per game.
About the Sailfish (Women's): Ayanna Holmes leads the Sailfish with 86 points averaging 14.3 points per game. Hannah Grim is the second leading point scorer for PBA with 46 points and 11.5 per game. As a team, the Sailfish are averaging 40.5 rebounds per game and shooting 41.4 percent from the field.
Series History (Men's): The Spartans hold the all-time series record over the Sailfish with a 21-2 record.

Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
Admission will be free for those who bring canned goods and non-perishable items for donations.
