Max Jones Named SSC Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced University of Tampa men's basketball standout Max Jones as its Player of the Week for his performance in a pair of Spartan victories last week.
Jones is awarded Player of the Week after leading the Spartans in a 2-0 record at the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic. The guard from Clearwater, Florida, scored a game-high 24 points as Tampa took a 77-60 victory over an Ashland squad receiving votes in the polls. Jones tallied two rebounds, two steals, and an assist in the victory.
The freshman went on to score a game-high 30 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Spartans posted a 67-64 win against Bemidji State. Jones scored 54 points by shooting 51% from the field (20-39), 89% from the free-throw line (8-9), and 40% from behind the arc (6-15). He averaged 32.5 minutes, 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals across the two contests. The weekly award is the second of his career.
