Tampa Finishes Strong at Spartan Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa golf team enjoyed its strongest round to complete the 2007 Spartan Invitational. UT moved up from eighth to sixth place at the event which it hosted at Rogers Park.
The Spartans shot a 298 in round three, topping its previous rounds of 306 and 305 from Monday. Tampa also had two individuals, both freshman, finish in the top 10.
Nicolas Jutigny and Kris Shane tied for eighth place with a 223. At +10, Jutigny shot a 75 in the final round as Shane fired his best round, a 72 in the final day.
Ryan Barnett finished in a tie for 22nd place as he shot a 226. He also enjoyed a solid performance on the final day, shooting a 73 to finish at +13.
The event, which was won by Lynn (882), included a top three comprised of Sunshine state Conference schools. Florida Tech (893) and Eckerd (900) rounded out the top three. Rollins and Saint Leo also participated, with Tars tying with Tampa (909) for sixth place while Saint Leo came in ninth with a 912.
Lynn's Scott Aydelotte took individual championship honors with a final score of 211 as he finished -2. Aydelotte was the lone player in the field of 90 to shoot under par. Eckerd's C.J. Denmark shot a 70 in the final round to finish second with a 216 (+3).
The Spartans return to action on October 22-23 as they travel to Lake Jovita for the Saint Leo Invitational.
