Tampa Finishes Strong at Barry Invitational
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team competed with several NCAA Division II powers and placed 14th at the Barry Invitational at Normandy Shores Country Club.
After shooting a 315 in the opening round on Monday, Tampa responded with team scores of 294 and 300 to finish at 909. Fellow Sunshine State Conference member Nova Southeastern won the team title with a score of 827, defeating host Barry University by 13 shots.
Freshman Myles Wharram was the top Spartan with a 223 as he finished with consecutive rounds of 72. Zach Schuster was two shots back of his classmate (225), followed by Helder Alves (229), Jason Steele (234) and Taylor Noel (235). Bobby Ray competed as an individual and shot a three-round tally of 232.
The Spartans will now focus on the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Tournament, which will be played at Lake Jovita Golf Course in St. Leo, Fla. The championships are slated for April 14-16.
