Tampa Places Fifth at The McDonough Cup
ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team followed up on a championship at the Webber Invitational with a fifth-place finish at The McDonough Cup, which was hosted by Rollins College at Rio Pinar Country Club.
The Spartans were fifth out of 18 teams, carding an 884 (+20) to tie Saint Leo and West Florida. Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn won the team title with an 853 (-11). Nova Southeastern (856), Florida Southern (874) and Florida Tech (876) followed.
Danny Syring led the Spartans, placing 12th overall with a score of 218 (+2). The sophomore from Park Ridge, N.J., registered rounds of 72, 73 and 73.
Zach Schuster finished the tournament with a third-round score of 70, marking the top round for UT. He finished with a 221 (+5), which was good for 25th place.
Also golfing for Tampa were Jason Steele (223), Gray Barnes (233), Justin Elwell (236) and Patrick Fereday (242).
The Spartans are back in action to conclude the fall season on November 1-2 at the Warner Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Lake Wales Country Club.
