Tampa Opens Spring With Top-Five Effort at Brevard
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team opened its spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Brevard Invitational.
Head coach Rick Christie's squad fired rounds of 307, 305 and 306 to finish at 918 (+54). The 14-team field was led by Webber International, who won with an 897. Fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn shot a 900 while Northwood came in at 909.
Gray Barnes and Jason Steele finished in a tie for 10th place, shooting a 226. Steele's 73 in the closing round also marked a team-best.
Also golfing for the Spartans were Steve Embree (229), Danny Syring (239) and Justin Elwell (250).
Tampa returns to action on Feb. 22-23 at the Webber International Invitational. The event will be played at Lake Wales Country Club.
