Spartans Get Final Tune-Up Before Postseason Play
NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - In the final regular season, meet of 2014-15, the University of Tampa men's golf team was 14th overall at the Buccaneer Invitational, which was hosted by Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University.
The three-round tournament was played at Normandy Shores Country Club. The Spartans shot a total of 908 with rounds of 310, 294 and 304. SSC foe Lynn University won with a 846, followed by Nova Southeastern at 859.
Zach Schuster and Jason Steele led UT with a 32nd-place finish and final score of 223. Schuster opened play with a 73, and followed with a 76 and 74. After shooting an 80 in the opening round, Steele closed with a 72 and 71.
Steve Embree finished with a 229, and also carded a team-best round of 70 in Monday's second go-round. Also golfing for UT was Danny Syring (233) and Justin Elwell (243) and Gray Barnes (230) competed as an individual.
With the regular-season complete, the Spartans will now set their sights towards the 2015 Sunshine State Conference Championships. This year's event will be played at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Fla., from April 12-14.
