Tampa Begins Spring at Eastern Florida
Danny Syring finished strong to lead UT in its spring opener.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team turned in an 11th-place performance at the Titan Winter Invitational, which was hosted by Eastern Florida State College.
The three-round tournament was played at Sun Tree Country Club. Johnson & Wales took the team title with an 883 (+19).
Tampa showed improvement following each round and finished at 938. The Spartans notched rounds of 319, 312 and 307.
Leading the way for UT was Danny Syring, who surged with a 15th-place finish. He opened play with a team-best 72, and followed with respective rounds of 82 and 73.
Jason Steele joined Syring in the top-20, placing 18th with a 228. Steele carded rounds of 78, 73 and 77.
Also golfing for the Spartans were Jacques Celestino (236), Justin Elwell (239), Gray Barnes (249) and Zach Schuster (250).
Tampa is back on the links on February 21-22 at the Webber International Invitational, which will feature three rounds at Lake Wales Country Club.
