Tampa Men's Golf Wins Webber International Championship
Seniors Jason Steele and Zach Schuster notched top-10 efforts for Tampa.
LAKE WALES, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team won a championship at the 12th Annual Start 2 Finish Tournament, which was hosted by Webber International University at Lake Wales Country Club.
The Spartans won a tie-break with Faulkner College, as both teams finished the three-round regulation with an identical 883. The Spartans fired rounds of 298, 293 and 292, to finish at +19.
Head coach Rick Christie sent 10 golfers, as Ut was led by seniors Jason Steele and Zach Schuster. Steele finished seventh overall with a 218, registering rounds of 72, 72 and 74. Schuster was ninth with a 219 as he recorded consistent rounds of 73.
Jacques Celestino, Justin Elwell and Danny Syring each finished in a 15th-place tie at 225. Elwell also shot the best overall round with a 71 in Sunday's second round.
Also golfing for the Spartans were Max Coulls (232), Bobby Ray (232), Gray Barnes (234), Grant Heelan (238) and Jonathan Buller (239).
Tampa returns to action on March 7-8 at the Florida Tech Invitational at Duran Golf Course in Melbourne, Fla.
