Justin Elwell Shines for Spartans at FIT Invite
The junior from Sewell, N.J., finished second overall.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's golf team turned in a sixth-place performance among 14 teams at the Florida Tech Invitational. The three-round tournament was held at Duran Golf Course.
The Spartans carded a total of 905 (+41), finishing in a sixth-place tie with Limestone College. After tallying rounds of 306 and 302 in Monday's rounds, the Spartans continued their improvement with a 297 on Tuesday.
Keiser University won the team title, shooting an 884. Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University was second at 885. Rounding out the top-five was Eastern Florida State (885), Palm Beach Atlantic (891) and host Florida Tech (895).
Justin Elwell turned in a career performance, finishing in second-place overall. The junior from Sewell, N.J., shot a 218 (+2), carding rounds of 74, 72 and 72. His scores also represented the top three individual rounds for all Spartans.
Also participating for the Spartans were Dan Syring (227), Zach Schuster (231), Jacques Celestino (232) and Jason Steele (236).
Tampa returns to action on March 28-29 at the North Alabama Invitational. The event will be played at the Robert T. Jones Golf Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
