Spartans Selected to Second Straight NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA announced the field of 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals that have been selected to participate in regional competition of the 2024 NCAA Division II men's golf championships.
The University of Tampa has earned an invitation for the second consecutive season, marking the first time since 1988 that the Spartans have earned a spot in consecutive NCAA tournaments.
Head coach Gary Hilton led his UT squad to a regular season where his team finished inside the top 10 in all 10 tournaments, including four in the top five. Freshman Jonathan Garbely joins teammates Jonty Marshall and Alex Mercier with a team-best 73.23 average in 2023-24.
The NCAA South/Southeast Regional features 20 men's golf programs from the Sunshine State Conference, Gulf South Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. In addition to the 12th-ranked Sharks, the regional field, among the deepest and most challenging in the country, features No. 1 North Georgia, No. 2 Lincoln Memorial, No. 4 Georgia Southwestern, No. 7 USC Aiken, No. 9 West Florida, No. 10 Lee, No. 11 Lander, No. 13 Saint Leo, No. 14 Florida Southern, No. 15 Barton, No. 21 Coker, No. 22 Columbus State, No. 23 Shorter, No. 24 Barry, No. 27 Wingate, UT, Lenoir-Rhyne, Union, and Miles.
The NCAA South/Southeast Regional will take place at the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga., from May 9-11. The top five teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Fla.
