No. 3 Tampa Trounces SSC Foe Florida Tech
The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to eight games after defeating the Florida Tech Panthers 12-6 Wednesday night at Panther Stadium.
MELBOURNE, Fla. -The No. 3 University of Tampa men's lacrosse hit the road Wednesday night to tangle with the Panthers of Florida Tech. The Spartans would go on to pick up the win knocking off FIT by a score of 12-6.
Following the victory, Tampa advances to 10-1, and 3-0 in Sunshine State Conference play extending their win streak to seven games. Florida Tech slides to 6-5 and 1-2 in SSC play.
The No. 3 Spartans attack was deadly and efficient. UT looked zoned in throughout the contest as they went on to post a shots on goal percentage of 77.7. Leading the scoring efforts were Andrew Kew with four goals, Jake Schmidt with a hat-trick and Conor Whipple with two goals and two assists. Also finding the back of the net for Tampa were Matt Bilak, A.J. Ferraro, and Jud Huxtable.
On the Defensive end, UT hauled in 25 ground balls and forced 12 caused turnovers. Holding down the defense were Charlie Cummins, Luke Posner, and Marty Heyn. The trio combined for eight ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Cummins lead the unit with his three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Picking up the win in net, and improving to 6-0 on the year for Tampa was A.J. Arnold. The Southborough, Mass native amassed 14 saves and posted a save percentage 70.0 in the matchup.
UT will return to action Saturday when they travel to Erie, Pa to battle the No. 10 ranked Mercyhurst Lakers. Game time is set for 2 P.M.; Live stats will be available for fans to follow the action via TampaSpartans.com
