West Palm Beach, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team (4-1) captured their third straight win on Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic (4-2).
The Spartans started off strong against the Sailfish when Devin
Shaw found the back of the net in the 6th minute to put Tampa up
1-0 after his first goal of the season. Zach Barber added to the
lead in the 44th minute with an unassisted goal to give the
Spartans a 2-0 advantage heading into half time.
Palm Beach Atlantic scored in the 73rd minute to cut the Spartan
lead to 2-1 when Josh Sharpe took a pass from Cheyne Roberts just
outside the penalty area and put it past the Tampa keeper.
Kevin St. John turned in another brilliant performance for the
Spartans, allowing one goal and making three saves to earn his
fourth win of the season. Ricardo Cardoso added to his team-leading
point total with an assist on Shaw's goal to record his eighth
point of the year.
Tampa returns to the pitch on Sunday in Melbourne when they visit
the Florida Tech Panthers in the first Sunshine State Conference
matchup of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
