TAMPA, Fla. - Freshman Greg Sasser broke a 1-1 tie in the 80th minute to lead the 12th-ranked University of Tampa (6-1-1, 1-1 SSC) men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Nova Southeastern University (5-3-1, 0-1 SSC).
The victory, which is the first in Sunshine state Conference play for the Spartans, is also the second straight win over a South Region opponent after defeating West Florida on Friday.
Tampa's Lister Warren got his team on the board first, scoring at 7:41 from teammate Andrej Gulan. Nova answered in the 24th minute with an unassisted score by Romain Onteniente.
With the score tied at 1-1 for the next 56 minutes, Sasser capitalized on the game-winner goal when Pascal Milien worked his way past the NSU defenders to find Sasser for the score.
Ryan Thompson starred in goal for Tampa, collecting nine saves. Nova outshot UT 27-22 with a 10-6 shot on goal advantage.
The Spartans return to action on Wed. Oct. 1, when they travel to Lynn for a 3 p.m. meeting with the second-ranked Fighting Knights.
