UT To Meet Familiar Opponent In NCAA South Regional Opener
WINTER PARK, Fla. - For the third consecutive season, The University of Tampa men's soccer team will square off against Lynn University in the NCAA Division II South Regional. Friday's opening round matchup will begin at 4:30 p.m. as Rollins College earned the No. 1 seed and rights to host the event.
All games will be played at Rollins' Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field as the Spartans earned the No. 2 seed after advancing to the Sunshine State Conference tournament finals. SSC tourney champion Barry University earned the No. 4 seed and will meet Rollins on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Tampa has defeated Lynn in the last two regionals, most recently playing to a 3-2 victory in last year's regional final. Two years ago, UT picked up a 2-1 opening round victory over the Fighting Knights. The teams have met five times in the South Regional, with UT carrying a 3-2 advantage.
With a 15-2-1 overall record, Tampa was the SSC regular season co-champions with Rollins. The Spartans and Fighting Knights met previously on Oct. 3 as Tampa played to a 2-1 double overtime victory.
