KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The final NSCAA National Rankings have been released for 2009, with the University of Tampa men's soccer team finishing at No. 5, placing them in the top 10 in each poll this season. Along with the poll, the 2009 NSCAA Men's NCAA Division II All-South Region teams have also been announced, with three Spartans earning first-team selection and two earning second-team honors.
Three Spartan seniors were placed on the first-team including Ryan Thompson, first-team goalkeeper. Dan Ingvarsson continues to garner accolades this offseason, this time as first-team defender. Pascal Milien, Tampa's leading goal-scorer and point-getter was also chosen for the first-team.
Kyle Williams and Lister Warren were chosen for the NSCAA All-South Region second team. Williams has helped anchor the Spartan backline for two seasons while Warren was second in goals and points behind Milien this season.
After being named preseason No. 3, the Spartans never
relinquished their place in the top 10, while being ranked as high
as No. 1 for three weeks. The final poll saw National Champion Fort
Lewis take the top spot, followed by runner-up Lees-McRae who
defeated the Spartans in the National Quarterfinal to earn a bid to
the final four. Lewis and LeMoyne, the remaining teams in the final
four, sat third and fourth in the poll, respectively.
