Spartans Blank Hurricanes For First Win
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 5 University of Tampa men' soccer team rebounded from its season opener to blank Georgia Southwestern State University 1-0 on Sunday in the squad's final game of the 2010 Cougar Invitational. The Spartans (1-1-0) pick up their first win of the season while the Hurricanes (0-2-0) drop their second game of the year.
After trading zeroes in the first half of the contest, the
Spartans got on the board in the second frame. Freshman Alex
Knaggs netted his first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute when he
took a free kick from teammate Jordan Moses.
Goalkeeper David Neipel earned his first win-and first shutout-as a
Spartan while having to make just one save. The Spartans outshot
the Hurricanes 14-5 in the game, 6-1 in shots on goal. Sophomore
Kemal Malcolm registered a team-high four shots in the game.
"I'm happy for our players," head coach Adrian Bush said following the contest. "It's our first win in 2010-much better work rate today."
Senior Jordan Moses and junior Ryan Griffin were both named to the all-tournament team while the Tampa athletic training staff, headed by Jamie Kennedy, received recognition as well. Bush offered a thank you to the staff who was "very busy this weekend."

Notes: UT collected two yellow cards in the game, three on the weekend…The Spartans are 2-0 all-time against Incarnate Word…the two teams last met in 1994.
