Spartans Battle With Orlando City in Wednesday Night Meeting
ORLANDO, Fla. - In spring action, the University of Tampa lost by a 1-0 score to Orlando City of the USL Pro League on Wednesday evening at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The game remained scoreless as Orlando City scored with 18 minutes left in the second half. Goalkeeper David Niepel kept the Spartans in the game against what head coach Adrian Bush described as on the best professional teams he has seen in the past five years.
"I want to thank Orlando City for giving us an opportunity to play a professional team," says Bush. "To see so many players from our conference represented makes me proud and really says a lot about our conference as a whole."
Orlando City is the reigning champions of its professional league.
"We defended fantastic tonight and the past week in training focused on a stronger commitment to get numbers behind the ball to prevent the counter attack, which led to the two goals for the Rowdies last week," says Bush. "All 18 players that traveled played and really did a great job competing from the opening whistle to the end, I am really proud of them. We have a little more than two weeks before our next match April 6th and we will be looking to get some things cleaned up in the offensive half."
