MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 18 University of Tampa (3-0-1) men's soccer team stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 overtime win at Barry University (1-4) on Wednesday.
Tampa's Alex Knaggs connected on the first goal of the game in the 15th minute on a strike from 35 yards out. The Buccaneers would answer with a 27th minute effort that sent the game to halftime at 1-1.
The game remained scoreless through the second period, before the Spartans tallied the game-winner from All-American and Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year Tyler Blackwood. The goal came in the 94th minute off a rebound.
David Niepel started in goal for UT and netted five saves in the winning effort. Overall, Tampa outshot the Bucs 15-12 and 8-6 on shots on goal. Each team had three corner kicks.
The Spartans return home to host Nova Southeastern University on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., in their second straight non-conference contest versus a Sunshine State Conference opponent. Live stats and a webcast will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
