Tampa and Florida Southern Play to Double Overtime Draw

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (6-7-3, 2-5-1 SSC) men's soccer team concluded regular-season and Sunshine State Conference play with a 2-2 double overtime tie with Florida Southern College (4-8-1, 2-4-1 SSC).
The Spartans got off to an early start when forward Kevin Knowles completed the blocked shot by Tyler Blackwood to put the team up 1-0 in the fourth minute.
Tampa maintained its lead until the 41st minute of the half with a goal by Florida Southern's Corey Mills from Tobi Abel. Keeper David Niepel dove left for the shot, but was unsuccessful.
The Spartans rounded out the half with seven shots to the Moccasin's 10.
Florida Southern took the 2-1 lead in the 74th minute with a goal by forward Corey Mills assisted by midfielder Alexi Cortez.
Within three minutes, Tampa responded quickly when Blackwood found the upper right corner in the back of the net from Daniel Barboto to even up the score at two.
The Spartans and Moccasins headed into overtime with 15 and 16 shots respectively. Both keepers, Niepel and Cole Clingerman, captured two saves in the match.
The match ended in a tie after both overtime periods went scoreless. Rach team registered three overtime shots.
