Spartans Play to Draw with Falcons

Box score TAMPA, Fla.-

The University of Tampa (2-1-1) men's soccer team and Montevallo (2-1-1) played to a 1-1 (2OT) draw at Pepin Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans and Falcons played to a scoreless first half. UT held a 9-6 advantage in shots while each team had two corner kicks.

Jeffrey Hessenberger opened the scoring in the second half to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute. Kevin Francis was credited with the assist on the goal

Nikolai Hammer netted the equalizer for Tampa in the 62nd minute. Alex Knaggs assisted to even the score at 1-1.

Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of regulation sending the game to overtime. Goalkeeper Zak Downes tallied six saves for the Spartans while Yannic Horn saved eight for the Falcons through 90 minutes.

After 10 minutes of extra time the game remained tied at 1-1 which would hold as the final score following an additional double overtime period.

Tampa also outshot Montevallo 19-9 in the second half while holding a 6-5 advantage during the overtime periods.

Hammer had a team-high six shots with three on goal while Daniel Barboto totaled five shots of his own. Keith Francisco and Kevin Knowles also contributed to the Spartans offense with four shots each.
