UT Set to Host a Pair of Regional Opponents
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (2-1-1) men's soccer team is set to welcome a pair of regional opponents to Pepin Stadium this weekend. UT will face West Florida (1-2) Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest and take on No. 21 West Alabama (3-1) Sunday at 12 p.m.
Tampa is coming off a 1-1 (2OT) draw against Montevallo on Sunday and a 1-0 victory over Clayton State last Thursday. West Florida suffered back to back losses to SSC institutions No. 3 Rollins and Florida Southern by scores of 1-0 and 3-1 respectively over the weekend. West Alabama suffered its first loss of the season Sunday to No. 24 Young Harris (Ga.) by a final of 3-2.
Chris Campbell leads the Spartans with two goals on the season while fellow classmate Keith Francisco has notched one goal and two assists. Nikolai Hammer and Brandon Loafman have also contributed to the Tampa offense with a goal each.
Goalkeeper Zak Downes has tallied two shutouts in his first season with the Spartans while saving 20 shots.
Tampa is 10-3-3 in the all-time series with West Florida as the teams battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie in the 2011 season at Pensacola, Fla. UT will meet West Alabama for the first ever matchup between the regional opponents.
