MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The No. 21 University of Tampa (7-4-1, 1-3 SSC) men's soccer team picked up a crucial Sunshine State Conference victory at Barry University (4-5-1, 1-3 SSC) on Saturday by a score of 1-0.
"This was a tremendous effort tonight," says head coach Adrian Bush. "We really had a great team talk last Thursday. The boys came out with great fire against a very good Barry team."
Freshman Monty Berrow netted the game-winner following just over 72 minutes of scoreless play.
Freshman Zak Downes picked up another shutout as he registered seven saves. Barry outshot the Spartans 17-11, and 8-5 on target.
"All that matters now is our next game," states Bush. "In this league, you must have amnesia. Tonight is over, we need to start preparation for Wednesday night at Florida Southern."
The Spartans return to the pitch on Wednesday in Lakeland, Fla., in an SSC match versus Florida Southern College. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
