Downes Claims Third SSC Weekly Honor
MELBOURNE, Fla. -
The University of Tampa's Zak Downes has been named Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week presented by VALIC.
Downes, a freshman goalkeeper recorded 200 minutes in goal and was instrumental in securing an undefeated week for the Spartans. In a 2-2 draw with Florida Southern, Downs played 110 minutes and saved eight shots on goal. He followed that performance with nine saves in 90 minutes against Nova Southeastern in a 2-0 victory. Downes' shutout against NSU is his seventh of the season. Tampa sits at 8-4-3 on the year, 2-3-1 in SSC play.
