Second Half Surge Lifts Spartans to Victory
Tampa picks up second region victory of opening weekend.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (2-0) men's soccer team stayed perfect in its
season-opening homestand with a 2-1 victory over NCAA South Region opponent Spring
Hill College (0-1-1).
The teams played to a scoreless first half at a hot and muggy Pepin Stadium. Spring
Hill had a slight 3-2 edge in shots and also had a pair on goal compared to one by the Spartans.
Senior Jason Collister broke the scoreless tie with the match's first score in the
56th minute. His second goal of the season was sent into the box by teammate Lewis
Sugden as Collister pushed it past the SHC keeper from short range.
The Badgers evened the score at 1-1 in the 78th minute as Ibrahima Ndaw kicked home
a goal that was assisted by Tapfuma Dimairo and Donte Oliver.
The Spartans regained the in the 84th minute when Collister was tackled in the box. Teammate Fredinho Mompremier then connected on his second game-winner of the weekend when he found the top right corner of the net.
Tampa outshot the Badgers 7-6, as SHC held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Jake Richards earned his first career start in goal, and moved to 1-0 on the season. He finished the game with three saves.
