Lewis Sugden Headlines All-SSC Honors for Tampa
A total of six Spartans were recognized in the awards
MELBOURNE, Fla. - Twenty-five student-athletes are recognized as ALL-SSC for the 2016 season. Lynn University boasts 10 awards including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Voting for the team was conducted among the league's men's soccer coaches.
Lewis Sugden was awarded Freshman of the Year after collecting 20 points this season after recording six goals and a team-leading eight assists. Sugden becomes the fourth Spartan to win the award in school history and the first one since Robbie Folbrycht in 2001.
Fredinho Mompremier and Ramzi Toure were voted to the first team this season. Mompremier has played in every game so far this season and leads the team with 11 goals and is tied for second on the team with four assists. Toure has been part of a backline for UT that has held opponents to a 1.34 GAA and has recorded four shutouts.
Bay Downing, Sugden, Jake Winship, and Jake Richards were awarded second team honors for this season. Downing has recorded eight goals this season with the highlight being a five-goal outburst against Auburn-Montgomery that set a school record for goals in a game. Winship has been a member of a midfield that has helped on both ends of the field. The Senior has three goals including the game-winner at No.22 Florida Tech. Goalkeeper Richards was named as an at-large selection. The freshman has appeared in 11 games, conceding 13 goals and tallying 27 saves.
UP NEXT:
Tampa travels to West Palm Beach for a Friday night semifinal meeting in the SSC conference tournament with top-seed Palm Beach Atlantic at 7 p.m. The other semifinal will feature Eckerd and No. 2 seed Lynn. Eckerd advanced in the other quarterfinal on Tuesday with a victory over Florida Tech.
