Tampa, Clayton State Grind to Tie

Spartans draw for the third time in four matches.

MORROW, Ga. - The University of Tampa men's soccer team out-shot Clayton State on Saturday evening, however tied the Lakers 1-1 in Morrow, Ga. The Spartans secured their third draw in the seasons' first four matches. Head coach Adrian Bush was asked about the road trip and said, "Proud of the performance this weekend. We looked much better in the attack and had more balance between the lines today."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
1st Half | In the third game of his career, Travis Foster chipped the ball over Clayton State's goalkeeper Leuri Fraire to register the first goal of his career. Marcel Salokat led the freshman, Foster, into the box on a cross and Foster one-touched the chip past the out-sprawling netminder in the 33rd minute. The Lakers knotted things up at one when Jack Stevens slotted a ball through the box, and found Brad Kay on the right side to even the score in the 44th minute. Baylor Asher received a yellow card in the 27th minute of the contest. 
 
2nd Half | Frustration led to a chippy match in the second half. Tampa's Rojay Smith and Mike Schessl were charged with yellow cards in the 56th minute and the 60th minute, respectively, a four minute stretch in the heart of the match. In the 73rd minute, Clayton State's Kwaku Dwamena was flagged with a yellow card. Ramzi Toure was given a yellow card in the 74th minute. 
 
Extra-Time | In the second overtime, Salokat ripped a free kick towards the lower left corner but was denied by Fraire. Clayton State's Leonardo Notarnicola picked up a yellow card in the 103rd minute. Jake Richards made two of his five saves in overtime.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Tampa's freshman have contributed goals in three straight matches (Julius Becker, Amgad Salah, and Foster). 
  • Smith led with a game-high with seven shots, two on target. 
  • UT used eight reserves who totaled six shots, three on target. 
  • Fraire logged ten saves on the Spartans' 29 total shots.
