TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's soccer team dropped its season home-opener in overtime against the visiting No. 18 ranked West Florida Argonauts, 3-2, at Pepin Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: Junior Juancho Fernandez opened the Spartans attack with a shot in the eighth minute, the first shot in the match, wide right. In the 14th minute the Argonauts had a shot of their own, resulting in a goal, earning an early 1-0 lead. Just 15 minutes later, West Florida rifled their second goal of the game in the 33rd minute to take a 2-0 lead, despite having just three shots (two on goal). The Spartans continued their furious attack in the opening half, outshooting the Argonauts 9-3 overall, and finally broke through with a goal at 37' by junior Omar Thali, who logged three shots in the first.
Tampa had three other quality scoring chances in the half: a header by Fernandez, a header by freshman Sean Quinn, and two shots by junior Till Neumann. Score: 2-1 West Florida
Second Half: Thali continued to drive the bus for the Spartan attack, logging the first shot of the second half in the 50th minute (saved by goalie). He notched the games equalizer just three minutes later in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick, tying the game 2-2. Score: 2-2 Tied
Overtime: West Florida scored the golden goal just three minutes into the overtime period. Final: 3-2 West Florida
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Omar Thali had a career-high eight shots in the match, with five landing on goal.
- Till Neumann logged three shots in the match with all three on goal.
- UT dominated in shots, outshooting West Florida 21-7 (12-4 SOG).
- Goalkeeper and graduate student Adam Forster made his Spartan debut, making one save.
