Bardin, a freshman from St. Petersburg (Northeast HS), led the Spartans to a second place finish at the Delta State Invitational in Cleveland, Miss. Bardin made the national cut in the 200 freestyle (1:51.53) while also breaking the pool record in the event. She achieved another NCAA cut in the 500 freestyle (5:03.71) while cruising to a first place finish. Her final cut of the meet came in another first place finish in the 100 freestyle (52.01).
Furrer, a freshman from Gig Harbor, Wash., led the Spartan men to a second place at the annual Delta State Christmas Invitational. Furrer had three NCAA qualifying times on the weekend. His lone victory was accompanied by a NCAA "A" cut in the 1650 freestyle (15:50.68). His distance dominance continued with a second place time in the 500 freestyle (4:36.63) and his lead-off leg on the 800 freestyle relay (1:43.52) with both times being NCAA "B" cut times.
"This is a great honor and I am ecstatic with the entire freshman class," says head coach Ed Brennan. "They have responded well and are true believers of this program. I love working with Jessie and Tyler and they are great individuals to coach. We are lucky to have them on the team."
