Tampa Heads to Final Day of Delta State Invitational
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams continued competition at the three-day Delta State Invitational, remaining in contention at the annual event that features five top collegiate programs.
UT's women remain in second place, totaling 490 points through 28 events. Missouri State continues to lead, owning 674 points. New Orleans (414.5), Delta State (411.5) and Arkansas-Little Rock (140) round out the top five.
On the men's side, the Spartans slipped to third place with 435 total points. Missouri State is first with 638 points, while New Orleans holds a slim margin over Tampa with 445. Delta State is fourth with 413 points.
Tampa had a pair of big individual performances on the women's side, beginning with a first-place showing by Jennifer Jenkins in the 400 IM. She took top honors in the event with a 4:30. 83 time. Jessie Bardin also won the 200 Free with a time of 1:50.57. UT's women also received a top finish in the 800 Free Relay from the team of Dana Glodek, Kim Tench, Kelsey Lubbers and Bardin. The first-place time was 7:41.60.
In men's action, Tampa's Jeff Fiore won the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.63.
Tampa returns to the pool on Sunday for the final day of competition at the DSU Invitational. The finals are slated to begin at 4 p.m., central time.
