Home Opener a Huge Success for Spartan Swimmers
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams both notched easy victories over Savannah College of Art & Design, with the men winning by a score of 151-11 and the women by a 153-98 tally.
UT's men notched a pair of relay victories, beginning with the 200 Medley Relay of Berk Kahraman, Kevin Doran, David Humphrey and Felipe Manzo with a time of 1:36.04. The 200 Free Relay group of Humphrey, Manzo, Andrew Johnson and Jason Khoury also finished in 1:25.79
Tampa also posted individual top-finishes from Norbert Kovacs in the 200 Free (1:44.83), Zach Sprague in the 200 Fly (1:58.01), Humphrey in the 50 Free (21.63) and 100 Fly (51.27) and Zane Hranac in the 400 IM (4:20.63).
The Spartan women started the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Hilary Stetekluh, Michelle Walcker, Lindsay Calimer and Kristine Kassl won while posting a time of 1:50.79.
Tampa won a total of nine women's individual races with Heather Glenday posting a pair of first-place showings. The sophomore from Babylon, N.Y., championed both the 200 Free (1:55.98) and 1,000 Free (10:32.85). Freshman Erin Plachy also won a pair of races, including the 50 Free (24.85) and 100 Free (53.81).
Also winning for the Tampa women were Stetekluh (100 Back, 1:02.40), Walcker (100 Breast, 1:10.33), Catherine Parker (200 Fly, 2:09.81), Xela Steenberge (200 Back, 2:17.89) and Lindsay Calimer (100 Fly, 58.82).
Tampa's next meet will take place at home against Sunshine State Conference opponent Saint Leo University. Live video will be available through www.tampaspartans.tv.
