Spartan Swimmers Sweep Saint Leo
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swim teams each picked up a Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo University. The No. 8 men won by a 161-101 score as the No. 11 women took their meet 185-77.
The Spartan women took the 200 medley relay with the combined efforts of Danielle Bach, Alex Hipolito, Emily Grams and Marisa Barton for a total time of 1:51.46. The men mirrored behind the efforts of Karl Burdis, Philip Nordenberg, Runar Borgen and Khalid Aldaboos for a strong 1:33.39 finish. Barton and Grams combined with Heather Glenday and Erin Plachy to capture the 400 yard freestyle relay by a 3:44.47 final time.
Freshman standout Barton finished first in two individual events, posting the winning times in the 50 free (25.19), 100 free (54.52) in addition to a pair relay wins. Senior Catherine Parker took the both the 100 and 200 yard butterfly with a 2.11.38 time in the Tampa triumph.
On the men's side, Burdis continued his strong season, winning the 100 backstroke (50.14) and the 200 backstroke (1:53.20). Nordenberg touched first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a final time of 59.40 to help push the meet from reach.
The Spartans head to Melbourne, Fla. to face Florida Tech Friday, Nov. 22nd with the meet set to begin 4:30pm.
