Tampa Swimming Heads to Final Day of SSC Championships
ORLANDO, Fla. - The third day of the Sunshine
State Conference Swimming Championships came to a close Saturday
night. As promised, day three was just as exciting as the previous
two. There was no lull in the action as eight SSC records fell, as
well as, nine Championship records.
Additionally, the University of Tampa men's 200 Medley Relay set a
new school record with a time of 1:28.15. The new record-holders
include Jordan Augier, Wayne Denswil, Runar Borgen and Jeremy
Parker.
The performances from today bring the aggregate totals to 19 SSC
and 28 meet record breaking performances in the three days of
action. The standings have shifted as Florida Southern has taken
the lead from Nova Southeastern in the Men's team standings. Nova
Southeastern retains the women's team lead, but Florida Southern
has jumped Tampa in the Women's team standings. Below is a brief
overview of the day's action.

Day three Preliminaries, Records broken:
There was more record breaking action to kick-start the day, as
Marco Palacios of Florida Southern set a new SSC Championships
record in the Men's 100 Backstroke with a time of 47.74. Rebecca
Matthews of Lynn set a new SSC record for the Women's 100
Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.33. She dethrones her current
teammate Tyne Potgieter (1:02.39) who set the record just last
year, on the exact date. Also setting a new SSC Championship record
in the prelims was Anton Lobanov of Nova Southeastern by posting a
men's 100 Breaststroke time of 54.12.
Day two Finals, Records broken:
The finals started in dramatic fashion much like all the previous
sessions. Daniel Bis of Saint Leo set a new SSC record for the
Men's 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:22.50. Marco Palacios of
Florida Southern improved his record time for the Men's 100
Backstroke he set in prelims with a new SSC record of 47.15.
Rebecca Matthews of Lynn also improved her record-breaking
performance from earlier in the day and set a new SSC record in
Women's 100 Breaststroke with a 1:00.88 time. Anton Lobanov of Nova
Southeastern shattered the SSC record in men's 100 breaststroke
with by setting the new time at 52.00 which was 1.13 seconds faster
than the previous record. Courtney DeVeny of Nova Southeastern set
another SSC record this time in the Women's 200 Fly. DeVeny set the
record by posting a time of (2:01.20). Florida Southern's Rau
Garrastazu bested his previous SSC record he established in the
Men's 200 Butterfly with a new record time of 1:46.49. Nova
Southeastern's Women capped the day off by setting a new SSC record
in the 800 Freestyle relay with a time of 7:22.67.
