Tampa Swimming Finishes Day Three of Championships
The UT men's swim team sits 9th after the third day of competition while the women hold the 29th spot.
INDIANAPOLIS – Finishing day three of the 2016 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the UI Natatorium, the University of Tampa men's swimming team holds ninth-place while the UT women sit 29th after Friday evening.
Queens (N.C.) continues to dominate the field, as the women hold the top spot with a commanding 424 points, 124 ahead of No. 2 Wingate. On the men's side of the action, QC leads with a team score of 327 while second-place Lindenwood has 262.5 points. Sunshine State Conference programs Florida Southern and Nova Southeastern sit third and fourth on the men's side while Saint Leo sits just ahead of Tampa in eighth.
Freshman Makayla Ayers began the day participating in the preliminary round of the women's 500 yard freestyle, narrowly missing a chance to compete in the championship finals with a time of 4:59.35, missing the mark by under two seconds. Brittany Bayes finished the event in 29th with a time of 5:04.19 while competing alongside Ayers in the 500 free preliminary heat.
In the 24th event of the championships, Jordan Augier posted a 49.64 time in the 100 yard backstroke during the preliminary round of competition. The time earned the senior a 21st place finish.
The Tampa men's squad posted a 14th-place finish in the 800 yard freestyle relay to earn six points toward its team score. The team of Runar Borgen, Martin Hammer, Khalid Aldaboos and Jeremy Parker completed the event with a 6:42.19 finals time after posting a 6:35.29 preliminary time.
Competition will conclude Saturday, with the preliminary round at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Live streaming is also available for both the morning session and the finals.
