Men's Swimming Duo Garner All-SSC Honors
Spartans Jeremy Parker and Tommy Reminger earn All-SSC Second Team honors as announced by the conference Thursday.
MELBOURNE, Fla. – A pair of University of Tampa men's swimming student-athletes were named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday. Senior Jeremy Parker and sophomore Tommy Reminger earned second team honors after their efforts at the SSC Swimming Championships.
Thiago Sickert of Nova Southeastern University repeats as SSC Swimmer of the Year. Florida Southern College's Sean Kim earns Freshman of the Year and his coach Mike Blum is awarded Coach of the Year.
SSC Swimmer, Freshman and Coach of the Year awards were selected by vote of the league's swimming coaches following the NCAA Division II National Championship. Swimmers who finished top eight in individual points at the 2016 SSC Swimming Championships (Feb. 18-21 at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center) were named to the All-SSC Men's Swimming First Team. The next eight swimmers were named All-SSC Second Team.
Named SSC Championship Male Swimmer of the Meet, Sickert took the first in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly, and 100 Free as well as second in the 50 Free. Sickert went undefeated during the regular season in the 200 FLY on his way to winning the 2016 NCAA Division II championship in that event. His time of 42.98 in the 100 Free earned him an SSC Overall Record. He earned seven All-American honors at NCAA. Sickert tallied 14 individual first-place finishes, three-second place and three third-place finishes on the season.
Kim finished second in the 100 Breaststroke and third in the 200 Breaststroke at the conference championship. At NCAA's, he recorded a seventh place finish in the 100 Breaststroke and a 10th place finish in the 200 Breaststroke. Kim was also part of the Moccasin 200 Medley and 400 Medley national championship winning relay teams.
Blum is awarded his first SSC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year honor in his debut season. He led the Moccasins to their fourth consecutive Sunshine State Conference men's championship in February. FSC finished third among 30 scoring teams at the national championship. It is the fifth consecutive Top-5 finish for the Moccasins.
Marco Aldabe (Nova Southeastern) earns All-SSC first team accolades for a third consecutive year. Sickert, Blake Woodrow (Nova Southeastern), Jesus Marin (Florida Southern), and Marco Palacios (Florida Southern) repeat as first team members from last year.
