Tampa Men's Swimming Atop NCAA Leaderboard After Two Days; Women 8th
GENEVA, Ohio - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams continued their success at the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships, with the men holding on to their number-one spot as the women sit eighth following two days at the SPIRE Institute.
Day Two Standings
- Tampa's men are first with 158 points, ahead of Drury (135) and Indianapolis (122).
- The Spartan women are eighth overall with 48 points. Nova Southeastern is the women's leader with 155.
Top Performers (Men)
- Freshman Jacob Hamlin opened the finals as he medaled in the 1,000 Free with a third-place performance to become a 2x All-American at the 2024 Swimming Championships. Hamlin was clocked at 8:58.32, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than his entry time.
- In the 200 IM, Santiago Corredor bested his own school record with a third-place time of 1:43.97. Parker Knollman also raced in the A race, finishing with an eighth-place time of 1:46.64.
- After setting 50 Free school record in prelims, Ian Cooper broke his own record with a third-place finish of 19.43 in the finals. Blake Moran and Tibor Tistan also finished inside top-8 while Caleb Brandon was 6th in the B final.
- UT's men finished day two with an eighth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a school record time of 1:26.11 from Parker Knollman, Richy Polasek, Adrian Aguilar and Ian Cooper.
Top Performers (Women)
- After setting a school record in the prelims, Mady Barnes raced to an eighth place finish in the 200 IM as teammates Sierra Gillan and Sidni Meister also placed for Spartans. Barnes has a finals time of 2:01.73 and established the school record in 2:01.00.
- Isabelle Sering registered an 8th place time of 23.09 in the women's 50 Free.
- The Spartans finished the women's portion of day two with an 11th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. A time of 1:41.66 came from Kim McCaffrey, Mady Barnes, Isabelle Sering and Tilde Morin.
