Spartans Run With Nation’s Best at Bulls Invite
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's track teams competed for the second straight week at the University of South Florida, participating at the Bulls Invite against top NCAA Division I competition.
The two-day event began on Thursday with the 5,000 Meter run. Courtney Ragan won with a time of 18:10.48 as freshman Danielle Kissel was second (18:27.91). Vanessa Righeimer was third after being clocked at 18:30.08.
In the men's 5,000 Meter Run on Thursday, Mike Leone was ninth with a time of 16:16.71. Kyle Taylor also represented the Spartans, placing 19th with a time of 17:03.35.
Action began on Friday in the 1,500 Meter Run with UT's Kelly Hagan finishing eighth (4:41.42). Annais Pena was 23rd (5:06.12) as Iolani Scanlan was 25th (5:09.09) and Liz Anthony 26th (5:10.41).
The women's 100 Meter Hurdles included one Spartan as Danielle Carr was 29th with a time of 18.53.
In the women's 400 Meter Dash, Haley Weaver (28th, 1:05.07), Angelica Wagner (30th, 1:08.46), Jocelyn Doina (31st, 1:10.08) and Nicole Cleary (32nd, 1:11.15) all participated for head coach Jarrett Slaven's squad.
In the men's 100 Meter Dash, Tyrone Clayton was third in his section and finished 14th overall with a time of 11.01.
The women's 800 Meter run included a pair of Spartans with Sarah Waller (14th, 2:23.11) and Scanlan (28th, 2:37.08).
In the men's 800 Meter run, Steven Dennig led all Tampa runners with a sixth-place finish and time of 1:58.15 as Josh Morrison was 15th at 2:02.55.
Tampa ran in the women's 400 Meter Hurdles with Kelsey Burnett (18th, 1:10.48), Marina Alfonso (19th, 1:12.04) and Erin Mertz (22nd, 1:16.31)
UT placed one individual in the men's 400 Meter Hurdles as Ryan Rogers was 19th with a time of 1:03.07.
In the women's 200 Meter Dash, Lindsay Smith (64th, 27.42), Wagner (67th, 28.58), Jocelyn Doina (70th, 29.73), Carr (71st, 30.41) and Cleary (72nd 31.43) all competed.
One Spartan ran in the women's 3,000 Meter run as Aimee Epps was 22nd with a time of 12:42.80.
In the men's 3,000 Meter run, Tory Webb set a school record with a third-place finish in the 8:40.92. Mike Zwijacz was seventh after logging a new personal best time of 8:55.68 as Peter Licari (12th, 9:08.38) and Geremy Dewitt (15th, 9:22.29) also represented Tampa.
The Spartan women concluded competition in the 4x400 Meter Relay, finishing 11th overall with a time of 4:17.80.
Tampa returns to action on March 22-23 at the Florida State University Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
