Tampa Women Win SSC Title, Woznicki Claims Individual Title
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's cross country team completed the Sunshine State Conference championships, the men placed second while the women claimed their fifth title in six years.
The Spartan women claimed four of the top five individual times. Laura Woznicki placed first with a time of 21:39 to win the SSC individual title. Jessica Forrester finished second with a time of 22:22. Paige Williams claimed fourth place with a time of 23:19 while Alysha Duffy also crossed the line with a time of 23:19 for a fifth place finish. Julia Vola placed sixth with a time of 23:21.
The Spartans had an overall point total of 18, with Florida Southern placing second with 53 points. Nova Southeastern placed third with 84 points. Florida Tech, Rollins, and Saint Leo placed fourth (92), fifth (141) and sixth (184) respectively.
The men's team placed three runners in the top 10, with Tony Nicolosi finishing second with a time of 26:29. David Forry placed third with a time of 26:36. Chris Catanach finished eighth with a time of 27:03
Florida Southern's men won the meet with a 26 total points. Luke Beevor finished with a top time of 26:21 for the Moccasins. Tampa placed second with 42 points and Nova Southeastern was third with 68 points. Florida Tech, Saint Leo and Rollins placed fourth (107), fifth (152) and sixth (158) respectively.
Both teams are back in action Saturday, November 3, as they compete in the NCAA South Regional, hosted by Alabama-Huntsville
