Spartans Come Up Short in Pitching Battle
TAMPA, Fla. - The 20th-ranked University of Tampa softball team dropped a 1-0 game to visiting Rollins College. The Spartans are now 28-9 on the year and 11-5 in the Sunshine State Conference as Rollins improves to 31-11 and 8-5 in the SSC.
The game remained scoreless for the first four innings until Rollins scored the game's lone run on a two-out RBI triple by Monica Meadows. The teams combined for seven hits, with Tampa connecting on four as Rollins had three.
Heather VanLandingham started for the Spartans and had a complete game while moving to 9-4 on the season. She allowed just three hits and struck out five batters.
The teams will meet again on Saturday in a doubleheader to conclude the series. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m. The day will also mark Senior Day for the Spartans.
