Deanna Henriott Leads List of Three Spartan All-Region Performers
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced the 2012 Division II All-Region teams, including University of Tampa pitcher Deanna Henriott on the first team.
Fellow pitcher Kayla Cox and catcher Becky Vyzas also received second-team recognition as this year's teams are comprised of 204 student-athletes from 89 institutions spread out over the eight NFCA regions, with a first and second team for each region.
Henriott compiled a 1.13 ERA en route to a 21-6 overall record in 2012. She also amassed the program's single-season record with 308 strikeouts in 192.0 innings pitched. The senior from St. Petersburg, Fla., threw three no-hitters this season, including a perfect game against Georgian Court University.
Cox finished her sophomore season with a 16-2 record to go with a school-record 0.34 ERA. She also set a school record with 83.2 consecutive innings without an earned run, and threw the program's first postseason no-hitter in a win over No. 13 Barry University.
Vyzas, a senior from Tampa, Fla., hit .299 with a team-high five home runs. She also registered 23 RBI while excelling on defense with a .996 fielding percentage.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year's All-Region teams and all honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of three All-American teams.
The 2012 NFCA Division II All-American teams will be announced on NFCA.org on the evening of Wednesday, May 16
