Tampa Set For Senior Day Versus Florida Tech
The University of Tampa women's basketball team is set to play host to the Florida Tech Panthers for the squads last regular season home game. Tampa will honor its three seniors Taja Green, Catriana Messina and Gianna Messina before tip-off which is slated for 2 p.m. inside the Bob Martinez Sports Center.
UT enters the contest ranked second in the Sunshine State Conference holding a 19-6 overall record while going 11-4 in the conference. Although leading the all-time series record history by a 28-26 margin, the Spartans will look to steal back a game they dropped in a 91-82 overtime decision earlier in the season in Melbourne, Fla. to the Panthers. Although falling short in the first face-off, Tampa just clips FIT in the conference rankings as the Panthers take a back seat coming in at the third position in the SSC with a 21-6 overall record and a 10-5 mark in the league.
Coming to the regular season's end, Tampa looks to finish out on a good note for both conference tournament seating and Regional positioning. UT's three seniors lead the charge into the game as C. Messina leads the team with 122 assists taking the fourth highest average in the conference dishing out 4.9 a game. G. Messina is averaging 15.8 points per game and shooting a conference best 46.5 percent from behind the 3-point line while also leading the team in rebounds with eight per contest. Green leads the Spartans in scoring with 16.1 points per game, which is good for fourth highest in the conference and holds a 52.1 field goal percentage on the year.
Capturing the conference's most recent Player of the Week accolade, Lindsey Watson has consistently contributed to the Spartans success. Leading the last three games in scoring, the rookie currently averages 14.0 points per game and looks to contend as a freshman Player of the Year candidate.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3 (senior citizens and students). UT students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT identification card.
