Spartans Collect Sixth-Place Finish to Start Season
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's golf team began its 2015-16 season with a sixth-place effort at the Daytona State Invitational.
The two-round event that took place Saturday and Sunday was played at the LPGA International Legends Course. Daytona State College served as the host of the nine-team field.
The Spartans shot rounds of 325 and 327 to finish at 652. Host Daytona State took the team title with a 596, followed by Seminole State (611) and Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern (640).
Grace Marie Schian was the top Spartan golfer, carding an 83 and 78 to finish in 18th place with a 162. Her second-round 78 also matched teammate Alyssa Morahan for the top UT round in the tournament.
Morahan finished 20th overall, shooting a 162. Also golfing for Tampa was Fatin Amin (22nd, 163), Jess Wild (26th, 166) and Hanna Grevelius (40th, 175).
Head coach Missey Jones and her Spartan squad will continue fall action on October 11-13 at the Guy Harvey Inviational, which will be hosted by SSC opponent Nova Southeastern University. The tournament will be played at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale.
