Women's Golf Begins Spring Season Behind Top-Five Ella Mason Performance
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's golf team kicked off its spring season with a seventh-place finish among 17 teams at The World Golf Invitational
The three-round event was held at the Slammer and Squire course in St. Augustine, Florida, on February 5-6, 2024, saw a robust competition among 17 teams, comprising a total of 92 players. The Tampa golfers faced tough competition, with the team tying for 7th place alongside Limestone, each scoring a total of 909, which was +45 over par.
Ella Mason led the charge for Tampa, showcasing an impressive performance across the three rounds to finish 5th individually with a score of +4 over par (220). Her consistent play, marked by scores of 71, 74, and 75, was a highlight for the Tampa team on the challenging 6,049-yard course.
Ana Maria Jimenez Rios also contributed significantly to the team's efforts, tying for 24th place with a total score of 228 (+12 over par). Her rounds were 72, 78, and 78.
Emille Bjorge and Chloe Burdon followed, with Bjorge tying for 48th place at +17 over par (233) and Burdon tying for 54th place at +19 over par (235).
Silvia Barnes and Maxime Holletschek also represented the red, black and gold. Barnes, competing as an individual, tied for 68th place with a score of 241 (+25 over par), and Holletschek shared the same position and score, highlighting the depth of competition and the challenging conditions faced by all players at the event.
Tampa is back in action on February 18-20 at the Lady Mocs Classic in Lakeland, Fla.
