Spartans Spear Hawks in Record Setting Performance
TAMPA, Fla -The Tampa Spartans defeated the Shorter Hawks Saturday afternoon in an action packed contest at Naimoli Family Athletic Complex. After the dust settled the final score of the contest was 21-6. The 21 goal performance was the highest in program history.
Following the victory the Spartans improves to 5-6 on the year. Headed in the opposite direction, the Hawks drop to 2-5 on the year and are on a two game losing streak.
The Tampa dominated Shorter in every facet of the game. First half action started UT striking first on a Natalie Carraway goal.Shorter quickly answered back with two quick goals of their own. After scores by Amanda Voges and Shannon Sweeney to regain the lead for UT the team kept their foot on the gas pedal and led for the rest of the contest. The Spartans would pull away going on a 6-0 run to close out the half to take an 11-4 lead.
Second half action picked up where the first left off with tons of scoring. Coach Gallagher's Tampa team came out determined in the second half outscoring Shorter 10-2. The Spartans attack was relentless and was to much for the Hawks to handle. The UT defense also made several key stops, including several saves by Vala Molamusa off free position shots from SU's Shelby Beverly and Mia Wiggins. Following her impressive performance Molamusa improved her record to 3-2 on the year and posted a .538 save % during her 49 minutes of play between the pipes.
The Tampa attack was led by Amanda Voges who netted five goals along with three assists. Natalie Carraway also recordedfour goals of her own along with three assists. Also scoring two goals for the Spartans was midfielder Amanda Rom. She was an important part of Tampa's effortsnotching two caused turnovers, three grondballs, and eight draw controls on the day.
Tampa will be back in action on Thursday, as they hit the road to take on Pfeiffer University.The game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
