Spartans Fall to Lions in Mid Week Matchup
ST. LEO, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans dropped a game to SSC foe Saint Leo Wednesday night at University Turf Field by a score of 15-5.
Following the loss the Spartans drop to 5-9 on the year. Headed in the opposite direction, the Lions advance to 7-4 on the year.
Action picked up right out of the gate with the Lions going on an early 7-0 run. Amanda Voges would answer back for Tampa off a Free position shot at the 7:49 mark. SLU would rattle off two more goals to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.
Coach Gallagher's team came out determined in the second half, but the Spartans weren't able to generate enough scoring, and eventually the defecit was to much for Tampa to overcome.
The Tampa attack was led by Voges who netted two goals increasing her season total to 43. Mackenzie Perna, Emilie Barbosa and Amanda Parker also recorded goals of their own.
The three key factors of the game were shots, free position shots and turnovers. The Lions won each of these categories on the day and the Spartans payed heavily for it. Tampa was outshot 33-16 and committed 24 turnovers. SLU made the most of their opportunites by coverting 4-7 of their first half Free position shot opportunities and finished the day 5-12 on FPS.
