No. 17 Spartans Welcome the CSU TimberWolves
After a heartbreaking loss to Florida Southern, the Spartans look to bounce back against the Colorado State University-Pueblo TimberWolves.
TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 17 University of Tampa women's lacrosse team is set to host Colorado State-Pueblo on Saturday, March 31st at 1:00 p.m.

Last Time Out: The No. 1 ranked Florida Southern Moccasins just barley slithered past the No. 17 Spartans by a final score of 13-12. In the contest, sophomore Claire Swanson had a standout performance, leading Tampa in four different stat categories. The Cheyenne, Wyoming native recorded three goals, four ground balls, four draw control wins, and had two caused turnovers for the Spartans. Another lights-out performance came from freshman goalkeeper Bridget Sutter. Standing in the cage for the entire sixty minutes, Sutter recorded 14 saves on 27 shots. Offensively, three other Spartans had two goals in this SSC rivalry showdown. These players included Kayla Kosubinsky, Rachel Crawford and Natalie Carraway. Junior Abby Coccagna headed the battle efforts on defense, ending the contest with three ground balls and two caused turnovers for UT.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 8-4 overall, 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. To start the 2018 season, the Spartans played three top-ranked opponents. In their very first game of the season, they were able to defeat the No. 11 ranked Rollins College Tars 10-6. The Spartans then took on No. 13 Limestone College, and No. 7 Queens University. Although they lost both of these matchups, the games were close and the group has shown stellar performances since. In fact, Tampa's only losses this season have been from top-25 programs. Due to the team's outstanding performance thus far, the Spartans have Snagged the No. 17 rank according to the USILA Coaches Poll.
About the TimberWolves: The TimberWolves are currently 1-6 overall, 0-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Tonight CSU takes on SSC foe, the Florida Tech Panthers. The biggest offensive threats for the TimberWolves are #22 Leah Neumann, #5 Alix Zierden, and #12 Taylor Christensen. Neumann currently leads CSU with 37 goals and 12 assists on the season. Following her efforts are Zierden who has recorded 32 goals and three assists, as well as Christensen who has 28 goals and eight assists. Defensively, #28 Rachael Welzin leads the TimberWolves in both ground balls and caused turnovers. On the season, the senior has 43 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers. Colorado State University-Pueblo's primary goalkeeper is #13 April McDonough. McDonough has started all 12 games for the TimberWolves and has racked up 66 saves and has a goals-against average of 13.92.
Series History (Women's): This is the first time that the University of Tampa and Colorado State University-Pueblo have faced each other in women's lacrosse.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
