Spartans Move Up One Spot to No. 16
After ending last week 1-1, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse team moves up one spot to No. 16 according to the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll.
TAMPA, Fla. – In the IWLCA Division II Coaches poll announced on Monday, April 2nd, the University of Tampa women's lacrosse program was tabbed the No. 16 best team in the nation.
Florida Southern (12-0) again leads the way in the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, grabbing 23 of 25 first-place votes. There was little movement in the top ten spots, and the top five remained exactly the same this week: Adelphi (9-1) sits in second, Lindenwood (12-0) is third, followed by Le Moyne (9-0) and Florida Tech (10-1). Indianapolis (6-3) dropped out of the top 10 to land at #15 after suffering two losses last week, allowing Pace (6-3) to enter the top-10 for the first time this season at #10. LIU Post (7-2) and Limestone (9-2) held on at numbers six and seven, while Rollins (11-2) and Mercy (8-1) moved up a spot to land in eighth and ninth. Tiffin (7-3) returns to the poll at #25, while Queens (5-7) drops out of the rankings, but is still receiving votes.
New Haven (#18) hosts #10 Pace, and Mercy (#9) travels to #17 New York Tech on Tuesday to kick off the week's slate of Top-25 games. Wednesday's action includes Lock Haven (#24) at East Stroudsburg (#20), Assumption (#23) at #4 Le Moyne, top-ranked Florida Southern at #8 Rollins, and #5 Florida Tech at #16 Tampa. The weekend's games between ranked opponents include: East Stroudsburg against #21 Indiana (PA), Florida Tech against Rollins, #6 LIU Post versus Adelphi (#2), and Mercyhurst (#19) at Lock Haven.
This past week, the Tampa Spartans went 1-1, falling to the No. 1 Florida Southern Moccasins 13-12, before defeating the Colorado State-Pueblo TimberWolves by a final score of 14-7. The Spartans currently sit with a 2018 record of 9-4.
The Sunshine State Conference is well represented in the poll, with Florida Southern holding on to the No. 1 spot, followed by Florida Tech at No. 5, and Rollins College at No. 8.

The 2018 Coaches Poll has been expanded to include 25 teams in all three NCAA Divisions this year in order to more accurately reflect the growth of the game at the collegiate level in recent years. The Coaches Polls are published every Monday during the regular season.
